Veterinary Nurse, Victoria animal hospital
Permanent and fixed term contracts available
Full time and part time hours will be considered as well as flexible working requests.

Blue Cross are one of the UK’s leading rehoming organisations for animals. We support sick, injured and homeless pets and care for more than 40,000 animals every year through our rehoming, veterinary and education programmes.

What is the role?
Have you been considering a move into charity, and helping those who are really in need?

We would like to recruit an outstanding registered Veterinary Nurse on a permanent basis to join our team. We are a charity, who pride ourselves on delivering excellent patient and client care. The successful candidate needs to have strong nursing skills and be able to hit the ground running at our Victoria hospital, but also occasional shifts at our other London hospitals. We’re not about micromanagement, it’s not fun for anyone, so you will need to work under your own initiative to get the job done. Of course, your manager will be there to support you when needed and we will ensure that you receive opportunities to develop and train.

We are looking for a good all-rounder who can have a great rapport with clients during nurse clinics, stay cool, calm and collected during difficult routine and emergency surgeries, and assist the vets in clinic to keep everything running smoothly, and have a great opportunity to use and develop your nursing of inpatients.

Volunteers are integral to our charity, and we need our wonderful employees to be willing to train them. It takes a bit of time and effort, but you’ll soon find they can start to work independently and be a huge asset to the team. We also have ongoing training for new staff and sometimes locum nurses therefore training others is an important part of our team.

We pride ourselves on our no blame culture and run monthly reflective rounds to help process difficult events and promote mental well-being. We also hold regular informal catch ups between line reports and their managers, it’s not about how you’re performing, it’s about how you are.

What is required?
We are looking for people with the following:
• Fully qualified Veterinary Nurse
• Registered with RCVS
• Confident in all aspects of veterinary nursing and previous experience in a busy charity or hospital
• Demonstrable customer service skills

It would also be great if you had:
• Provision of nursing clinics, variety or surgical nursing and nursing of complex medical cases.
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to train and oversee others

We are recruiting for both permanent roles and a 12 month and 9-12 months fixed term contracts to cover maternity leave. Full time and part time hours will be considered as well as flexible working requests.
