Laboratory Assistant, Victoria animal hospital
Nine months fixed term contract, part time (26 hours per week)

What is the role?
We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic person to work as part of a small team providing a wide range of in-house laboratory tests at our Victoria animal hospital. This modern and fully equipped animal hospital has a varied and advanced caseload involving critical care, in depth medical work-ups, orthopaedic and spinal surgery in addition to routine treatments and surgeries.
The successful candidate will need to be a qualified Veterinary Nurse or Laboratory Technician with previous experience of carrying out core laboratory work. You will have experience of maintaining computerised records and will be capable of meticulous data entry and analysis.
You will possess good communication skills, both verbal and written, and will have a flexible approach to your work with the ability to cope under pressure whilst dealing with a busy workload.
This role is a nine-month fixed term contract working 26 hours per week. Days to be agreed with the successful candidate.

What is required?
We are looking for people with the following:
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Core laboratory work including:
o Running haematology and biochemistry analysers
o Preparation and staining of blood smears
o Preparation and examination of faecal flotation samples
o Preparation and examination of urine deposits
o Preparation of bacteriology culture and sensitivity samples
o Processing of snap tests (FeLV/FIV, PLI, Giardia)
o The use of computerised records and a practice management system
• Excellent attention to detail
It would also be great if you had:
• Examination of blood films for differential counts and cell morphology.
• Basic cytology skills

Salary: £18,920 - £22,000 plus £3,954 London Weighting Allowance per annum pro rata
