Rehoming Centre Manager, Greater Manchester rehoming & advice unit
12 month fixed term contract, full time

Blue Cross is passionate about our vision that every pet should live a healthy life in a happy
home and in delivering our mission to improve the welfare and quality of life for all pets. Caring for animals since 1897, today we help over 40,000 horses, cats, dogs and small animals each year. Understanding implicitly how valuable relationships between animals and humans are, we also support pet owners at times of need.

Our rehoming services face the challenge of abandoned, unwanted and sick pets every single day. Our teams are there for all pets, from strays and rescues to unplanned litters and pets with behavioural and health challenges. Recently we have developed a strategy in response to the need’s pets face in the modern world, to effectively deliver our strategy we have designed a band new rehoming operating model and organisation structure, which we are looking to fill with talented, experienced and energised people.

What is the role?
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage a team to deliver our agile range of rehoming services at our rehoming & advice unit in Greater Manchester. We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic individual, who can see possibilities in different ways of helping pets. The rehoming & advice unit is now firmly established and part of the local community, and we are currently looking for a manager to develop it further to expand our services and impact. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to improving the lives of pets and people and has experience of leading and coaching a team.

This role will suit someone who can see possibilities and opportunities and develop creative solutions. The role is varied and will need someone who actively enjoys working with people as much as helping pets. We are looking for an inspiring leader who enjoys coaching and developing the team and can support them to build and maintain resilience in difficult times.

A sound knowledge of companion animals is needed and knowledge of up to date behaviour theory is an advantage. Whilst the unit does not have facilities for overnight animal accommodation, the welfare of pets under our care is paramount, and the role requires management of external kennelling and foster carers to ensure our welfare standards are met.

This role will suit someone who is a self-starter and enjoys the challenge of running all aspects of the centre. The ability to provide strong leadership guidance is critical as is the need to maintain a level head. This is a challenging role which provides opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of pets. There will be tough days too but being able to see the bigger picture and approach the work with purpose will make this role rewarding.

If you think you have what it takes and are looking for an exciting role that makes a difference, then we would love to hear from you
