We are one of the UK’s leading rehoming organisations for animals. We support sick, injured and homeless pets and care for more than 40,000 animals every year through our rehoming, veterinary and education programmes.
What is the role?
Are you looking for the opportunity to work in a no blame culture, active encouragement to pursue your interests, managers who are visible and approachable, and a team that enjoys working together? Are you looking for a better work/life balance with support from an excellent, well-structured organisation?
Blue Cross hospitals provide veterinary treatment for animals belonging to those people whose financial circumstances do not allow them to afford private veterinary fees. The range of work carried out is similar to that in private practice, but although we are a charity, we pride ourselves on offering an excellent level of care to our patients and their owners. We offer a high-quality working environment with facilities including digital X-Ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, multiparameter anaesthetic monitors and infusion pumps. Many of our vets hold certificates or have special interests and are more than happy to share their knowledge and help you develop your clinical skills.
We hold regular clinical governance discussions and have developed an award-winning set of clinical guidelines to assist our vets in pragmatic decision making, where patient welfare is a priority. High standards are important to us but so is the ability to discuss openly where lessons have been learnt, within a safe, non-judgmental environment.
We are looking for a locum Veterinary Surgeon with a caring attitude to animals and owners and will be able to communicate well with colleagues and clients. Our hospitals see a high caseload of emergency and critical care cases, both surgical and medical, so it is desirable that you have some small animal experience. The role will be on-site hospital shifts working across our three London sites, Victoria, Merton and Hammersmith, on a shared OOH rota for late and weekend shifts with time off in lieu.
What is required?
We are looking for people with the following:
• Member of Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
It would also be great if you had:
• UK small animal or mixed practice experience
• UK driving licence
