Veterinary Nurse, London animal hospitals, based at Victoria
3 to 6 month fixed term contract, full time
Blue Cross are one of the UK’s leading rehoming organisations for animals. We support sick, injured and homeless pets and care for more than 40,000 animals every year through our rehoming, veterinary and education programmes.
What is the role?
How do you feel when you can’t treat a pet because of financial constraints and owner circumstances? Have you been considering a move into charity, and helping those who are really in need?
We would like to recruit an outstanding registered Veterinary Nurse on a permanent basis to join our team. We are a charity, who pride ourselves on delivering excellent patient and client care. The successful candidate needs to have strong nursing skills and be able to hit the ground running. We’re not about micromanagement, it’s not fun for anyone, so you will need to work under your own initiative to get the job done. Of course, your manager will be there to support you when needed and we will ensure that you receive opportunities to develop and train.
We are looking for a good all-rounder who can have a great rapport with clients during nurse clinics, stay cool, calm and collected during difficult anaesthetics, and assist the vets in clinic to keep everything running smoothly, and have a great opportunity to use and develop your nursing of inpatients. Our nurses cover some duties, which includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis, at our Victoria and Hammersmith hospitals, so we need someone who can be flexible and be able travel to these sites when needed. At Victoria, you will be able to utilise your nursing skills to the full in our fantastic 24 hour hospital.
Volunteers are integral to our charity, and we need our wonderful employees to be willing to train them. It takes a bit of time and effort, but you’ll soon find they can start to work independently and be a huge asset to the team. We also have ongoing training for new staff and sometimes locum nurses therefore training others is an important part of our team.
We pride ourselves on our no blame culture and run monthly reflective rounds to help process difficult events and promote mental well-being. We also hold regular informal catch ups between line reports and their managers, it’s not about how you’re performing, it’s about how you are.
